Showtime Series with DISH Network
“Weeds” on Showtime
Now in its seventh season, Showtime’s critically acclaimed “Weeds” tells the story of Nancy Botwin, a young widow who resorts to dealing marijuana to keep her children in the suburbs after her husband, Judah, dies. Often darkly hilarious, the show then follows Nancy’s misadventures as her upper middle-class lifestyle clashes with her means of supporting it.
So far Nancy’s chosen vocation has not only caught up her and her sons, Silas and Shane, in killings and drug deals gone wrong, but the illicit substances she’s introduced into her L.A. suburb have addicted her manipulative neighbor Celia. What’s more, Nancy and the boys have been forced in recent seasons to go on the run in an RV, effectively bringing the lifestyle Nancy began dealing in her fight to preserve it, to an end.
”Dexter” on Showtime
Another highly popular Showtime series, “Dexter” is based on Jeff Lindsay’s novel “Darkly Dreaming Dexter” and has won 19 Primetime Emmy Awards and over a dozen Creative Arts Emmys. The series tell the story of Miami Police bloodstain analyst Dexter Morgan, who moonlights as a serial killer who murders other killers.
Dexter’s life, however, is complicated by the fact that “The Code of Harry” (named for his adoptive father, Harry Morgan) has made his sociopathic tendencies nearly unnoticeable to those around him. As a result, Dexter has a wife and children from whom he is continually trying to keep his second life a secret. Even worse, freshly revealed memories of his murdered mother are progressively breaking down Dexter’s sociopathic tendencies and opening him up to emotion, which he hasn’t felt in years. The show’s mixture of character-driven story and thriller-genre suspense have already caught many viewers’ attention and are sure to ensnare yours as well.
Showtime’s “Californication”
One of Showtime’s newer series, “Californication” is the story of novelist Hank Moody, who moves to California while suffering from writer’s block. Basically, Hank does as many writers allegedly do: He spends much of his time getting drunk and sleeping around. The only problem is he’s got a daughter, Becca, and his longtime girlfriend Karen, who get roped into all the drama his can’t-say-no attitude brings on.
For instance, by inadvertently sleeping with the underage daughter of Karen’s fiancée in Season 1, Hank ends up having to allow the girl to take credit for a novella he writes in return for her continued silence. As the series progresses, we learn that the novella has become a major success and that the girl, Mia, is taking complete credit as its author. The catch, however, is that Mia’s agent/boyfriend knows Hank’s the true author and his and Hank’s discussion about the fact breaks into a fight, after which Hank is forced to admit his involvement with Mia to Karen and Becca and face legal trouble in Season 4.
