HBO From Cable TV vs. HBO From DISH Network
Companies claim a lot of things, and cable companies are no exception. But can they really claim their packages offer more HBO® HD channels than satellite TV providers like DISH Network? Here at InternetLion.com we haven’t been able to find an instance when they have, but we’re willing to bet one or two of them eventually will.
So rather than sit on our hands we decided to put together the following comparison of HBO from cable TV vs. HBO from DISH Network®. Consider it a kind of “pre-emptive strike.” Sure the cable companies might not be sporting WMMs—“weapons of mass misinformation,” on this topic yet—but once we’re done they won’t be able to either.
Plus, we’ll even explain as a sort of addendum where you can find the best HBO schedule online. Essentially, it’s our way of planting this whole “HBO HD channels” topic six feet under, slapping our hands smugly and walking away from another well-done day’s work.
Who Offers More HBO HD Channels?
The first thing we’re going to do with this “HBO HD channels” article is explain where you can get more HBO HD channels - with HBO from cable TV or HBO from DISH Network – and at what cost. And, as with all InternetLion.com comparison articles, that means our first order of business will be selecting a specific cable company’s HBO package in a specific market to compare to HBO from DISH Network.
Of course, we want to point out to our readers that just because one cable company falls well short of DISH Network’s offerings in one specific community that doesn’t mean that, logically speaking, the same holds true in all instances. For our parts, we know from researching hundreds of markets that DISH Network consistently beats out the competition. But we certainly don’t have room in this particular article to include a comparison of HBO from cable TV vs. HBO from DISH Network for every hamlet across the country. So rather than try, we instead refer our readers to our other “Compare Offers” articles, all of which show DISH Network’s superiority in both cost and quality over cable providers.
At any rate, our example provider for HBO from cable TV in this article will be Time Warner® Cable, and our example market will be New York City. According to the Time Warner Cable website, the HBO channel lineup for New York City includes eight HBO SD channels, including an HBO On Demand channel, and seven HBO HD channels for $14.95 per month.
In comparison, HBO from DISH Network in the same area seems slightly pricier at $16 per month. But that’s before you consider the packages the companies require you to subscribe to before you can “add” their HBO packages. With DISH Network you can order a simple America’s Top 120 package for $29.99 per month and add an HBO package to it, bringing your total cost to a mere $45.99 per month. Whereas with Time Warner, you have to order a $72.95 per month digital cable pack before you can add on HD HBO channels, bringing your total to $87.95 per month.
What’s more, DISH Network deals that include HBO HD channels include one more HBO HD channel than the comparable Time Warner package for New York City, and they include two more SD HBO channels. That means that subscribers to HBO from DISH Network can enjoy nine HBO SD channels and eight HBO HD channels – each channel offering the finest in original series, movies and sporting events that HBO has become famous for. All things considered, then, only the most foolish spendthrift in Manhattan would turn down going with DISH Network for his HBO service. Paying more for less, after all, just doesn’t make sense.
