DISH Network DVR Receivers
Having already done a bit of background research, you probably know that the best digital video recorders on the market are DISH Network® DVRs and TiVo® DVRs. The question is, though, how do you choose between two products that seemingly have it all? Naturally aficionados on both TiVo and DISH Network DVR forums you’ve visited are adamant that their favorite systems are the best. And at this point the litanies of specs they offer to support their claims probably seem like no more than alphabet soup.
And yet, believe it or not, there really are far more reasons to go with a DISH Network TV DVR —including the fact that, unlike TiVo products, DISH Network DVR receivers are some of the few free HD DVRs on the market. Reason No. 5: DISH Network DVR Remotes Are Easier to Program
The first reason DISH Network TV DVR s win out in a DISH Network DVR vs. TiVo comparison is that DISH Network DVR remotes are far easier to program. It's easy to connect to TV with DISH Network. Of course, ostensibly there is no difference between TiVo and DISH Network DVR remote controls, and likely you’ll be able to program and use both pretty easily. The difference comes, however, if your remote doesn’t have a working code for TV stored in its memory.
To be sure, this can happen with both TiVo and DISH Network DVR receivers. But finding a TV code with TiVo DVRs requires you go through a long, annoying process that includes covering the end of the remote with your hand and leaving two seconds between scrolling up or down with the arrow buttons. With DISH Network DVR receivers, in contrast, all you do is push a couple buttons and scroll up or down at your leisure. Sure, it doesn’t seem like a major difference, but sit in front of a blank TV screen for an hour counting to two over and over and tell us if you aren’t a little irked.
Reason No. 4: DISH Network DVRs Offer Cooler Features
Once upon a time, TiVo was the leader in DVR technology, but no more. In fact, DISH Network TV DVR s have actually pulled ahead of the pack when it comes to new and interesting features. And probably the feature generating the most buzz on DISH Network DVR forums this year is DISH Network’s ViP922 SlingLoaded DVR/Receiver, which lets users watch and record programs remotely from their personal computers and smart phones. TiVo DVRs simply don’t have this or any of the other cool new capabilities of DISH Network DVRs. ‘Nuff said.
Reason No. 3: DISH Network DVR Recording Space Is HUGE
Another topic lighting up DISH Network DVR forums lately is the fact that DISH Network DVR recording space is nearly twice as large as that of most other DVR brands. For instance, DISH Network’s newest DVR, the DISH Network ViP922 SlingLoaded DVR, offers a full terabyte of recording space, which can easily be expanded by simply plugging in an additional external hard drive into the USB port on the DVR.
TiVo’s standard recorder, in contrast, the Tivo Premiere only has a 320GB hard drive. The Premiere XL, does offer one full terabyte (maximum) but it comes with a $599 price tag and TiVo does not advertise any options for expanding the storage capacity.
Reason No. 2: DISH Network’s Technical Service Department
It might not have the “Wow!” factor going on like our previous two reasons, but our No. 2 reason for going with a DISH Network DVR is definitely important. You see, unlike TiVo, which is only a DVR maker, DISH Network has the benefit of live on-site technicians. So, whereas TiVo offers help articles online and a phone and live chat service, DISH Network can actually send a technician to your home to install and fix your DVR. And you know what that means: You won’t have to void your warranty trying to get your DISH Network DVR working.
Reason No. 1: DISH Network Offers Free HD DVRs
If there’s anything worth being No. 1 on our list of reasons to order a DISH Network TV DVR—or to consider ordering one of DISH Network’s deals in general—it’s that DISH Network offers free HD DVRs. The way it works is that, unlike TiVo, DISH Network leases its DVR/Receivers to its subscribers. And currently, the DISH Network packages found at InternetLion.com include free HD DVR leases, plus six months without service fees, with Agreement. A $6 per month DVR service fee does apply after the introductory period.
