Comcast Specials vs. DISH Network Starter Package Specials
Comcast® specials always seem so, well, special when you see them on the Comcast website... Take, for instance, the huge 27-point font the company publishes its prices in. Or check out language like: “Online Exclusive Offer” for a $29.99/month “Digital Starter” package that only includes three free months of HBO as a perk and requires a contract. As far as Comcast deals go, this might really be one. But how do you know if there aren’t better deals out there from other companies? You can’t, after all, rely on Comcast reviews alone. And that’s why the folks here at InternetLion.com put together the following article.
The Problem With Comcast Specials
To determine whether the Comcast reviews you’ll find on Comcast affiliate sites are telling the truth about Comcast deals, let’s take a look at one of the so-called “Comcast specials” currently posted on the Comcast website. Of all the Comcast deals currently offered, none seems more deceptive to us than these Comcast’s “Digital Starter” offers. So this type of special is exactly what we’ll look at.
On the surface, the Comcast “Digital Starter” offers look pretty cheap. They offer three months of HBO free and over 80 digital cable channels that normally run subscribers $58.95 per month. It would seem these Comcast offers save customers nearly 50 percent off their subscription fees. But looking closer, the first thing we here at InternetLion.com discovered was that not all areas Comcast Cable services can get these kinds of Comcast deals. Instead, they have to pay the standard rate, essentially making these Comcast specials bait-and-switch in the price category.
What’s more, the cost of these Comcast deals doesn’t include the cost of Comcast HD DVRs. Comcast HD DVRs, you see, are necessary if you want to receive all those HD channels Comcast boasts about. But for each one you want, you’ll have to pay an additional $15.95 per month. What’s more, Comcast HD DVRs are not dual receivers. As a result, you’ll have to lease one Comcast HD DVR for each TV in your home.
DISH Network Starter Package Specials
Now let’s look at what DISH Network® has to offer when it comes to a starter package. For $24.99 per month with 24-Mo. Agreement and AutoPay with Paperless Billing, DISH Network will set you up with 120 standard-definition channels, 105 HD channels Free For Life, up to three free HD receivers including a free Dual Tuner HD DVR/receiver (a $6/mo. leasing fee applies), and three free months of FOUR premium movie packages - HBO®, Cinemax®, Showtime® and Starz®. DISH Network is also offering BLOCKBUSTER @Home Free for 3 months. Plus, while the contract with DISH Network is a two-year deal, your monthly subscription fees will increase to the regular price of $44.99 per month after the first year . But, this everyday low pricing will be locked in until 2013, so the total cost for one of these DISH Network deals over two years is a mere $839.76.
Now compare this to the $2,180.40 you’d pay Comcast to receive comparable service, and we think you’ll see, those Comcast reviews you’ve been reading may not be all they’re cracked up to be.
