AT&T vs. DISH Network TV Services
It seems fiber-optic cable is all the rage these days, and perhaps no other fiber provider is enjoying as much acclaim as AT&T. To wit, consumers in JDPower.com’s 2009 “Residential Television Service Satisfaction Study” gave AT&T U-verse cable TV five out of five stars across the board in two of the survey’s four service regions.
The InternetLion.com crew got to thinking about how according to everything we know, cable service—fiber-optic or otherwise—simply isn’t as good as satellite TV. And that, in turn, got us to wondering how well AT&T cable TV would hold up in a real AT&T vs. DISH Network comparison. The following article is what we came up with….
DISH Network vs. AT&T U-verse Cable TV Prices
Naturally, the first thing you’ll probably want to know about is how AT&T cable TV prices stack up to the lower-than-low prices DISH Network’s offering. And on this front, we’re proud to say, DISH Network is the decided victor. Not only does it offer 120 channels as part of its America’s Top 120 package, but get this: The whole package currently only costs $29.99 per month.
In contrast, the most basic AT&T U-verse cable TV package costs $54.00 in our sample region, Metairie, La., for 134 channels. That’s for slightly more channels than comparable DISH Network deals for over twice the money. So apparently the folks JDPower.com polled in their South service region—where Metairie, La., is situated—like wasting money. There just doesn’t seem to be any other reason, given the choice, why Metairie residents would choose AT&T cable TV over DISH Network service.
AT&T vs. DISH Network Customer Service
Another area of that ’09 JDPower.com survey we here at InternetLion.com find suspect is its comparison of AT&T vs. DISH Network Customer Service. What we just can’t wrap our heads around is how DISH Network customer service could consistently earn four of five stars compared to AT&T cable TV’s five of five when AT&T cable TV’s live chat service doesn’t even offer live chat in Spanish. (DISH Network, of course, does.)
And since customer service is about foreseeing your customers’ needs before they come up, we just can’t understand how AT&T U-verse cable TV deserves five stars in an AT&T vs. DISH Network customer service comparison when it so obviously has forgotten a whole group of prospective customers’ needs.
In fact, according to the 2010 American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) survey results for the U.S. largest cable and satellite TV providers, excluding fiber optic carriers, DISH Network is #1 among all Satellite and Cable providers in customer satisfaction.
