Compare Adelphia Cable TV vs. Satellite TV
There are really two ways you can go with an article about “Adelphia cable TV vs. satellite TV.” One involves comparing the now-defunct cable corporation Adelphia Cable TV vs. satellite TV providers, and the other involves explaining the differences between cable and satellite providers in Adelphia, N.J. At first, we here at InternetLion.com considered doing the former. But we quickly realized there’s no reason to discuss pricing for a company that hasn’t existed since 2002. Incidentally, Time Warner and Comcast absorbed former Adelphia customers into their networks and provided much needed upgrades to the cable infrastructure and programming choices that had been neglected by Adelphia prior to their bankruptcy.
Instead, then, we decided to go with the latter topic for the following article. After all, in doing so, our article will be useful to at least a few people. Otherwise we would simply be spouting off history, which might be of some interest generally, but probably isn’t going to help anyone decide between existing satellite and cable providers.
Adelphia, N.J. TV Options
If you are from Adelphia, N.J., and were wondering, “How can I compare satellite TV vs. cable TV providers in my area?” the first step is to identify which subscription TV companies can service you. At the time we published our “Adelphia Cable TV vs. Satellite TV” article, there were only three providers in Adelphia: DISH Network®, DIRECTV® and Cablevision’s iO TV®. Some resources also listed AT&T U-verse®. However, AT&T’s service finder returned “No Service Available” results for the Adelphia zip code we used in our research.
Likely the U-verse listing is a fluke, and your options for subscription TV service will be much the same in Adelphia as they would be in most U.S. towns: You’ll have a choice of either two national satellite companies or the area’s local cable provider. Because DIRECTV and DISH Network provide service across the country, the difference between their Adelphia packages will be similar to their differences in other locations. So for the sake of brevity, then, we here at InternetLion.com have decided to limit this article to a comparison of Cablevision vs. DISH Network.
If you would also like to compare DISH Network and DIRECTV services in Adelphia we suggest you visit our “How to Compare Cable TV Rates” article to answer the question “How do I compare satellite TV vs. cable TV providers in my area?” and the “Compare DISH Network vs. DIRECTV” page will explain how DISH Network deals outstrip DIRECTV deals on a national level. In combination with this article, they should provide a precise understanding of how Adelphia subscription TV services stack up and prepare you to do your own research in the future. As a result, you’ll never wonder, “How do I compare satellite TV vs. cable TV providers in my area?” again.
Getting back to our comparison though, now that we know which providers we’ll be comparing, we can visit their websites and determine which company provides the greatest number of channels for the lowest cost. Cablevision offers six TV packages. The most basic of these is its Broadcast Basic package, which gives subscribers access to 55 channels for $16.72 per month. Broken down, locals-only Cablevision subscribers pay 30 cents per channel per month and that isn’t even counting what you’ll get with such packages. Of the 55 channels comprising Cablevision’s locals-only lineup, many channels are On Demand, Spanish-language or shopping networks and 14 are HD replicas of SD networks also included in the package. All told, then, Cablevision’s locals package only offers 29 channels you can watch without some kind of added expense, equipment or knowledge, bringing its real per-channel monthly price to nearly 58 cents per channel.
Cablevision’s regular subscription service, its iO Package, must be added onto its Broadcast basic package for an additional $11.95 per month. This upgrade only gives Adelphia, N.J. subscribers access to 63 additional channels for a grand total of 118 channels in SD and HD for $28.67 per month, which works out to 24 cents per channel per month.
Compare DISH Network Satellite TV Packages
Compare this to DISH Network’s America’s Top 120 package, which offers Adelphia subscribers 120 SD channels, including a solid local channel lineup and a wide range of carefully chosen top channels outside of that, for only $24.99 per month, with 24-Mo. Agreement. DISH Network customers can currently also qualify to receive HD Free for Life, with 24-Mo. Agreement and AutoPay with Paperless Billing, adding another 105 HD channels into the mix for the same low price of $24.99 per month. This means that DISH Network subscribers can enjoy a total of over 120+ SD and 105 HD channels with the America’s Top 120 package, which works out to only 13 cents per channel per month! DISH Network’s Top 120 package customers can receive almost twice the channels for less than the price of Cablevision’s basic package. In fact, DISH Network has the best value in TV entertainment with the lowest all-digital price nationwide…every day!
